I found this book to be very easy to read as well as very informative. He managed to keep the medical and surgical details at a level that the lay person could understand, while being very detailed.
This book covers the surgery procedure from pre-op doctor's visits, working with your insurance company and suggestions for self-pay, all the way through the surgery itself, how to eat for the next month, and the post surgery lifestyle. Details include the surgery itself, how the fills are done and possible complications during or after surgery.
I think anyone who is considering the band and the people closest to them should read this book before hand.

Dr. Ortiz explains everything about the surgery in his book in a very easy to read and understandable approach. It is divided into sections so you don't have to read everything at once. I have not been banded yet but he will be doing my surgery on June 28th. Even if he is not your surgeon, this book is very informative and answers all of your questions.

Dr. Ortiz's book was invaluable in helping me make the personal decision to have lapband surgery. I actually scheduled my surgery with Dr. Ortiz and had a wonderful experience. I find myself using this book at least weekly as a reference tool. It is very well written and covers everything you need to know about considering surgery to caring for yourself post-op.

Dr. Ortiz saved my life. After reading his book, I decided to have the lap band surgery & I am very grateful to him & the information I read in the book. It has been a very good source for me to turn to before & after surgery. I keep it with me everywhere I go. It it easy to read & put into a format that I was able to understand. There is a section for questions that are typically asked. I didn't have to search the book when I needed a question answered. It has been over a year since I originally purchased this book & I still refer to it. :)

I had been researching the LAP BAND in order to make an informed decision for myself. This book was very helpful in that endeavor. I was banded 9/29/06 in Mexico and so far, it's been a great experience. This book helped me to "know what I didn't know" and thus, gave me some peace of mind. Even though I did not use Dr Ortiz, I believe he is one of the best and most knowledgeable in his field.
