"The detailed indices at the start of each chapter are an asset and should make using the text for pre-AART exam study that much easier for students. the explanations included in the answer section at the end of each chapter are excellent, as are the chapter exercises prior to multiple choice questions."--James V. 5 out of 5 stars Get this book while in your radiography program.   June 18, 2005

D.A. Saia's book "Radiography Prep" is excellent. I only wished I'd had it during my last year of school. I used it for about three weeks after graduation to study for the ARRT Registry Exam. If you feel very confident after graduation you can just read the summary boxes and do the questions, or review entire chapters of your weaker areas. Actually reading the material is like revisiting the entire radiography program all over again. This book is the perfect outline of everything we learned in school plus the "meat" of the subjects. The chapters begin with a thorough and clear outline. The chapters themselves are well illustrated and the text straightforward, clear, and to the point. The chapters end with chapter exercises first, then "registry type" multiple choice questions. The answers to the registry questions are explained including "why" the wrong answers are not correct. There might be some mislabled pictures like on page 300 where the quantum mottle picture is mislabled, but most of the time you will catch the error. The image evaluation section was also better than expected and the images clearly showed what was wrong or why the image suffered in quality. Inside the front and back cover are many useful formulas and other information like transformer laws, body surface landmarks, processor systems, chemical solutions, and filtration requirements plus more. I can't reccommend this book enough! My school's program was excellent in instruction and review, but with the help of this book you should do very well on the Registry Exam. Please use this book and your program's curriculum will all come back to you. Good luck!

This prep book completely breaks down the whole xray program, from start to finish. It is extremely helpful, and I would advise buying it in your first year so you can go through it during the program.

I was told there was a time when students didn't have to take certification tests in order to get a license. Well, those times are gone. Oh well. I'm glad this book exists. Saia's RADIOGRAPHY PREP has relevent chapters on what is tested on. They include chapters on radiation protection, patient care, radiographic procedures, etc. The patient positioning and imagaing procedures portion was clear. The book gave good directions on where the central ray is for each x-ray procedure, example PA Hand. For excellent review questions for exam preparation, I also recommend another needed reference such as Leonardi's THE ULTIMATE STUDY GUIDE FOR THE REGISTRY EXAMINATION IN RADIOGRAPHY: KEY REVIEW QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS. ALL 3 of these volumes were helpful and valuable sources. Nevertheless, Saia has a very concise and precise way of explaining things like the differences between types of shields, technical factors such as OID and SID and image processing.

I have been out of school for 32 years and recently needed to renew my ARRT license which I unfortunately had let lapse. I studed this book and the Appleton & Lange review and passed the test with a 90. I highly recommend this book for confidence in taking the registry.

This book helped me pass the ARRT Exam. I haven't been in school for a couple of years...plus I went to school overseas. I had the old version of this book but I needed to buy the newer one. It lived up to it's title "Radiography PREP". This book together with the Lange Q&A - Radiography Examination were the only books I needed...now I'm a Registered RT.
